Weight that goes on easily, comes off slowly, and returns the moment the diet stops.
What it looks like: Weight concentrated around the abdomen; Heaviness and lethargy, worst after meals; Craving sweet and heavy food; Weight regained quickly after every diet; Snoring, or breathlessness on exertion.
Classical Ayurveda describes Sthaulya — obesity — as a Kapha and Meda disorder in which the fat tissue is over-formed while the tissues beyond it are under-nourished. That is why the presentation is heaviness with fatigue rather than heaviness with strength, and why severe calorie restriction backfires: it starves the tissues that were already short.
Udwarthanam is the classical answer and the core of the plan — deep dry powder massage, worked against the direction of the hair, over the whole body. Podi Kizhi and Baspa Sweda are used alongside for the heaviness. Internal medicines correct the metabolic picture, and the diet plan is built around meal timing and food quality rather than counting.
Typical course: 14 to 28 sessions with an internal plan continuing after.
When to see a doctor first, not us: Rapid unexplained weight change in either direction, or weight gain with marked swelling, needs thyroid and cardiac assessment first.
