The Ayurvedic medicines we use, and what is in them

Our pharmacy compounds classical preparations described in the Ashtanga Hridayam, Charaka Samhita and Sharangadhara Samhita — Dhanwantharam Thailam, Triphala Churna, Podikizhi poultices, Brahmi dhara oil, Yogaraja Guggulu and Chyawanprash.

Every formulation is dispensed only after consultation with Dr.V.Vaitheeshwari B.A.M.S., at our Ayurveda hospital in Nookampalayam, Perumbakkam, Chennai. Each ingredient — Bala, sesame oil, Dashamoola, Haritaki, Bibhitaki, Amalaki, Nirgundi, turmeric, Brahmi, Jatamansi, sandalwood, Guggulu, Pippali and more — is named in full.

Naming every ingredient is deliberate. Proprietary blends with undisclosed contents are common in the trade, and they make it impossible for you or another doctor to check an interaction against what you are already taking. Bring your current prescriptions to the consultation and the plan is built around them.

Medicines are dispensed in-house so you leave with them in hand, rather than hunting for a formulation across the city.

• Yogaraja Guggulu — used in Kati Vasti and Greeva Vasti
• Chyawanprash — given after Panchakarma as a Rasayana
