Ayurvedic treatment for sinusitis and allergic rhinitis in Chennai

Blocked mornings, facial pressure, and a nose that reacts to the season and the AC.

What it looks like: Blocked or running nose on waking; Pressure or pain across the forehead and cheeks; Sneezing in bouts, especially in the morning; Post-nasal drip and a persistent throat clearing; Reduced smell and taste.

Ayurveda reads chronic nasal disease as Kapha accumulating in the channels of the head, often with Vata driving the sneezing and the sensitivity. The nose is treated as the door to the head — which is why the classical treatment goes in through it rather than around it.

Nasyam is the primary therapy: face and shoulder massage, local steam, then medicated oil instilled through the nostrils. It is done as a defined course, usually seven days, rather than a single session. Ksheera Dhoomam — medicated milk steam — is used for the facial pressure and the dryness. Baspa Sweda supports where the chest is involved too.

Typical course: A 7-day Nasyam course, often repeated at the change of season.

When to see a doctor first, not us: High fever with severe facial pain, swelling around the eye, visual change, or a persistently blocked nose on one side only with bleeding — see an ENT surgeon promptly.

Common questions

Does Nasyam hurt?
No. There is a strong taste at the back of the throat for a moment and some watering of the eyes. The massage and steam before it are the part most patients remember.
Why do I need seven days?
A single instillation clears the channel briefly. The course is what changes how readily it blocks again — which is the actual complaint.
I live near Pallikaranai marsh and it is always worse in the monsoon. Is that real?
Yes, and it is common in that catchment. Damp aggravates Kapha, and patients from that side often plan a short course just before the monsoon rather than waiting for the flare.
